Dancing-Shoes

Willem Bernardus Tijssen

Somewhere between you and me,
There moves a pair of shoes,
How can it be.
A pair of dancing-shoes moves smoothly over the floor.
They go their own way in their longing for more.
They dance better than a human being ever will do,
Joyful while the rock rolls,
Or in a sadly way their own rythm-and-blue.

So they go from day to day,
Their own musical way.
They dance their whole soul out,
No place for them they will ever stay.

Somewhere between you and me,
There moves a pair of empty shoes,
How can it be.
They are dancing their own world round.
It seems they are dancing on air,
Never touching the ground.
They are polished, they are shining in the light.
They are dancing tiredless from morning till night.

So they go from day to day,
Their own musical way.
They dance their whole soul out.
No place for them they will ever stay.

Somewhere between you and me,
They are moving non-stop.
How can it be.
They are going their way from dancing-floor to dancing-floor.
Never stopped by any door.
This merry-making couple shows the dancing art in the greatest way,
clearly to understand to everyone,
That human feet won't be able in them to stay.

So they go from day to day,
Their own musical way.
They dance their own soul out,
No place for them they will ever stay.
